How will my child be cared for at St. Leo School?
Response from Ms. Judy Helton (2nd Grade Teacher):
The smaller classroom size allows teachers to give more individualized care in instruction. Children are frequently assessed to determine needs and instruction is adjusted to fit a child's needs or areas for growth. The staff has been trained in planning and implementing long range units, keeping in mind the various learning styles, abilities, and interests of each child. All children at St. Leo School are accepted and appreciated for the gifts they bring to the school.
Prospective Parent Question:
How will my child benefit academically at St. Leo School?
Response from Dr. Helena DiBiasie (Middle School Teacher):
A child benefits academically at St. Leo School by receiving a strong foundation of skills at each grade level in preparation for the next grade. The students are taught in a structured environment with a variety of methods including hands-on learning and the use of computers, the internet, and SMARTboards. Students at St. Leo School thrive and excel academically for a variety of reasons. Students benefit from having smaller class sizes and more individualized instruction between the teacher and student. The family type atmosphere provides the children with the opportunity to share their experiences and challenges with other students and grow together as a “school family”. St. Leo places tremendous value in student achievement and success, and as a “school family” we work together to see that all children give their best and always strive to put forth their finest effort. As part of this effort, we differentiate our instruction, which enables us to meet the needs of each child. This is evidenced by the achievement our students demonstrate on nationally-standardized achievement tests, recognition of academic success in the Kentucky Governor’s Cup competitions, awards at the Kentucky Youth Assembly (KYA), and Kentucky United Nations Assembly (KUNA).
In addition, the faculty at St. Leo School stays in touch with new and upcoming educational advances through continuing education and other professional development opportunities. The students benefit from having highly-experienced teachers. We allow our students to compete successfully in the new millennium of skills because, as a staff, we support the learning of all learners.
In short, St. Leo students are well prepared academically, socially, and spiritually for high school and beyond.
